You also need to choose the best type of grind for the coffee that you have chosen. For example, some kinds would be best for a coarser grind. You also need to consider what kind of roast that you have, which will affect the flavor tremendously. If you do not care about maximizing the flavor, then you would not have to think about these levels. However, it would be a great way to know more about what you are drinking. 

The type of machine that you are going to use also matters. French press coffees are better with a coarser grind since you need to let the beans sit in the water. Meanwhile, espresso makers need rougher ground beans since you need to fit as much as possible into the device.
