Let’s Know About Rakesh Sharma
Rakesh Sharma was born on 13 January 1949 in Patiala Punjab, He is a Former Test Pilot and the first Indian Astronaut. After long service, he retired as Wing Commander in the Indian Air Force. On 3 April 1984, Rakesh Sharma created a new record when he flew to the Soviet Space Station Located in Low Orbit and spent seven days at the Space Station. Thus Rakesh Sharma became the first Astronaut of India. During this joint space mission of India and the Soviet Union, Rakesh Sharma has also photographed many parts of India. With This space journey, Rakesh Sharma became the world,s 138th Astronaut.
The Eary education of Rakesh Sharma occurred at St.George’s Grammer School, Hyderabad. After this, he received a Bachelor’s degree Osmania University in Hyderabad.
In 1966, Rakesh Sharma was elected to the National Suraksha Academy (NDA) and joined the India Air Force as a Cadet, After Passing NDA, he joined the Indian AirForce as a Test Pilot in 1970. During the India – Pakistan war of 1971. Rakesh Sharma had made a significant success with the MiG Air Craft. Rakesh Sharma continued on the strength of his qualification and hard work and reached the rank of Squadron Leader in 1984.
During this time on 20 September 1982, Rakesh Sharma was selected for a joint space mission of India (Indian Space Research Centre) and the Soviet Union (Intercosmos), under which he was going to get the opportunity of space travel.
After returning from space, the Soviet government Honored him with the ‘Hero of Soviet Union’. The Government of India honored him wuth the highest bravery Award ‘Ashok Chakra’.
